The Swifts travel so fast that their silhouettes are clearly separated despite being filmed at 50 frames/second, thus taking on the appearance of knives being thrown across the sky. Given that the average wingspan of a European Swift is about 45cm we can estimate that these birds were travelling at around 25m/second or 56mph.
